Changes to the Stormwater Drainage Manual & the credit rule affect all new public/private development & redevelopment in Columbus.

New Contract Provisions

Attention Contractors, Consultants & Vendors: Since June 2012, a new provision is required in DPU contracts & purchase orders. Several environmental requirements must be followed when performing work either for the DPU, at DPU facilities, or on DPU job sites.

Com-Til Available

Supplies of Com-Til / Com-Til Plus at our wholesale facility are again available. You may call 645-3153 or email before making a trip, but we expect to maintain a steady supply. Many conveniently located retailers carry our products as well.

Construction & Materials Specifications

The City recently completed an extensive revision to its Construction And Materials Specifications (CMSC), which are in affect as of February 1, 2012. Included are the 2012 & 2002 CMSC for Capital Improvement Projects and private development.

CAD Digital Submission Standards

For the creation and submittal of digital drawings, a Zip format file with Microsoft Word standards document and an autocad drawing template is available.

Water Distribution Facilities Approved Materials List

Developers or contractors constructing potable water facilities within the City of Columbus and surrounding contracted water service areas shall indicate all materials used in conjunction with the project & submit this form (includes Approved Materials List) in its entirety. 

Backflow and Well Conversion

To ensure there is no cross-connection or back siphoning of contaminated water into the main water supply, those with irrigation systems, auxiliary meters, car washes, pools and others are required to install a backflow prevention device which must be tested annually by a certified contractor.

Includes a list of certified backflow assembly testers, information/forms needed to become certified as a backflow assembly tester, information on well conversions and a Cross Connection Questionnaire Application for Water Service.


Get Certified

Authorization is required prior to working on City water or sewer lines. Contractors must submit an application to the DPU at 910 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215 and meet with a Review Board (meetings are every third Thursday from 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m). Check the list of Approved Contractors.

Private Sewer Agreement

This form is required to obtain permission to construct a private sanitary sewer discharging into the City Sewerage System, in accordance with City Standard Specifications and guarentees that the owner who designs, constructs, operates and maintains the sewer is in full accordance of Columbus City Code 1141.01 thru 1141.12 and agrees to maintain said sewer until the time when the City takes the sewer over.

Water & Sewer Contract Communities

DPU provides water & sewer service to over 20 communities in addition to Columbus through contractual agreements. Many of the customers in these communities receive a bill from Columbus. Other municipalities buy water in bulk from Columbus and handle their own billing (master metered communities).
